Biography
With a bold interdisciplinary curiosity and passion for the reciprocal relationship of art and nature, Colin is a current B.M. Music Composition and B.A. Biology student at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. His compositions seek to amplify and precipitate the intensities of the human lived experience, as well as engage listeners with environmental justice concerns in a visceral, meaningful way. Recent works such as Immolation 1°C (2025) and ARTEMIS Sonification (2025) raise awareness for the growing danger of anthropogenic threats such as climate-driven wildfires and air pollution. Please see the “Works” page for more information on these exciting projects and other compositions.
As an instrumentalist, Colin regularly performs on bassoon and oboe at Lawrence University and in the wider Fox Cities community. He has had the privilege to play principal bassoon, principal oboe, and contrabassoon in the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band, as well as premiere his own compositions for virtuoso double reeds. Additionally, Colin serves his community as a Bass Section Leader at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Appleton.
Colin’s career as a budding researcher involves self-designed studies in microbiology, coral ecology, genome editing, and data sonification, the latter of which he presented at the 2025 American Geophysical Union conference in New Orleans. In an effort to center community benefit in his research, Colin undertakes interdisciplinary projects such as characterizing bacterial diversity in the reed equipment of double reed instruments to inform healthy maintenance practices for woodwind players and rehearsal spaces. See more about this ongoing project and other research interests on the “Research” tab.
