November 2007 |
Welcome to the exciting November edition of ‘Big
Trucking News’! Watch how you say that, now! There is a
lot of news from Stronend Street this month (mainly because I
didn’t do a newsletter last month!)
The big news is probably the retirement of founders
and Big Cheeses Colin & Doreen. I suppose we’ve always
thought that Dad (Colin) would never really retire but 2 weeks
ago, he emptied his drawers of 30 years worth of collectibles,
information, documents and reference manuals and promptly took
them all home! – much to the disgust of my mother! Give
him a couple of weeks and he’ll be in sticking his nose
in again!
We had a retirement do for them both at the end
October and to prove that he’s not yet over the hill, we
took Dad and a squad of the staff up to Go Ape in Aberfoyle. It’s
like a big kids playground with the 2 longest zip slides in the
UK and they say we were 150 ft up above 90 ft waterfalls. We spent
3 hours climbing up 60 ft fir trees, staggering, pulling and leaping
across rope bridges, swings and various obstacles before dropping
or sliding to the ground and landing in a heap! And we paid for
the priviledge! Actually it was great fun but really tough and
scary in bits – confirmed by some choice language from my
normally very polite boys – you can take the boys out of
Glasgow but you can’t take Glasgow out of the boys, as they
say!
After a quick shower and change into our designer
evening wear we all headed off to meet loads more at a function
room in The Corinthian, Glasgow. A great night was had by all
and in particular Mum and Dad. Thanks to everyone who send good
wishes. After 30 years in this industry, I’m surprised they
are sane enough to enjoy their retirement!
This week is the Transport News Rewards Breakfast
which is always a good event with over 600 industry personalities
there to award the most deserving characters amongst us. We are
sponsoring Young Engineer of the Year award and hopefully will
see some of Customers get some recognition for their hard work.
I need to make 2 mentions for the Employee of
the Month as I missed last months so first of all let me mention
Matt Morrow in Graffix Detail for September’s award. Matt
has been promoted to assistant Manager in our livery company and
has risen well to a hard challenge. He was previously ‘on
the tools’ and now has most of his work to do on computer
so it is a whole new world for him. Well done Matt for being so
keen to learn but I need to add a wee dig by telling you that
he has broken 2 computers since he started learning though he
claims it was wear and tear – where have you heard that
before?
For October, there could be no more loyal or deserving
winner than Colin John Hutton who took his prize like his it was
his last payment from the Company (which it was!) adding that
he had actually worked very little this month!
That’s all for now folks. Give us a call
if we can help with keeping you mobile in this very busy month
before Christmas.
Regards
Corinne
