News June 2007

Hi everybody and how are you all?   I (Doreen) am writing this months News Letter as I am off with swollen glands and as usual in our family you are not allowed to suffer in peace.

I know that you have all heard of Corinne and Colin’s trip to the Himalayas for the Maggie Cancer Centre.  Well this was the big weekend with a Garden party and later a barbeque in our garden.   As you may remember Saturday was a fine day but when we wakened on Sunday morning at 6.30 the tents had blown away and were bashed and broken,  lights were smashed and the garden devastated.   So, from then until the first person arrived at 2pm we were all kept busy.  I think I had frost bite on Sunday and got drenched picking up rubbish on Monday.   However the end result was great and will result in something like £1500 towards Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres.   Thanks to all of you out there who have contributed to the fundraising as it is much appreciated.  Maggie’s is a facility that I hope I never need but according to its ‘clients’ does a fantastic job when you do need them.

The weather has been so good over the past 6 weeks that work has been short so that now we have had some wind a rain would you check out your vehicles and give us a call pleeeease.

Our Employee of the month was one of our new starts who has been with us just a few months, Gregorz Pasernak.    Gregor is turning out to be a star mechanic who works really hard and does a great job for us and is always happy and smiling.   He is experienced in everything from motorbikes to diggers so I’m he can handle your vehicles.   See his picture with Alan and Colin on www.colinhutton.com.

We have a fairly large change this month as Gordon Higgins  left our livery Company, Graffix Detail last week but we are delighted to say that Paul McSherry has taken over as Manager and is confident he can carry out all your work without hitch.  Paul could do with all the help you can give him though to get him off to a flying start so if you have that white van not marketing your Company, now is the time to call .   Nicola Rea will probably be in to see you soon to reassure you and I am sure that you have by now discovered that giving her an order is the quickest way to get rid of her!

We could be doing with a little bit more paint work so if you have been putting that refurb. this could be a great opportunity.    I was at a VBRA (Vehicle Building and Repairers Ass.) meeting last week where there was a presentation for the HSE regarding slippy truck floors.  They would really like you to have these floors marked with warnings and if possible coated in a non slip aggregate to reduce the risk.   They are also on the lookout for Drivers jumping down from the backs of trucks when loading or unloading as there has apparently been a number of claims for damaged knees, although they do admit that mostly they are on older drivers.   The requirement I think will be for a fixed ladder to assist.  It won’t surprise you to hear that we can do both of these and help cotton wool your staff as the law seems to be pressing us to do!

I will sign off now with a wee funny  - “Five Germans in an Audi Quattro arrive at the Italian border. The Italian Customs Officer tells them "It'sa illegala to putta 5 people in a Quattro.”  "Vot do you mean it's illegal?" asks the German driver.” "Quattro meansa 4” replies the Italian official. "Quattro is just ze name of ze automobile" the German says unbelievingly. "Look at ze dam papers: ze car is designed to karry 5 persons." "You canta pulla thata one on me!" replies the Italian customs officer. "Quattro meansa four. You have five-a people ina your car and youarra breaking da law.” The German driver replies angrily, "You idiot! Call your supervisor . I vant to speak to someone viz ntelligence!"   "Sorry" responds the Italian officer, "He can'ta come. He'sa busy with a 2 guys in a Fiat Uno."
