News May 2008

You know, I checked last months newsletter before writing this and the first paragraph reported snow and only a few days later, I’m sitting wilting in my office with temperatures of 25 degrees outside.  Don’t you just love the Scottish weather?

Charity news this month reports a donation to Maggies Cancer Caring Centres of over £5000 for a challenge we took part in last weekend called the Monster Bike Hike.  I confess I was only support but did some of the course with them to motivate and help them along.  Team ‘Vaseline Alley’ was headed up by 65 year old Dad who, I have to say, completed the 32 mile cycle and 42 mile hike in 22 hours without a moan. It was really tough terrain too, up through forestry paths and over roots and rocks.  Even the downhills were hard!  For anyone who is interested, the website is still taking donations for this amazing cause on www.justgiving.com/vaseline-alley.  Many thanks to those who did already.

Our sales department have asked me to include some used vehicles and trailers that they’ve been asked to sell.  If you have any interest in the following (which are all in test), give Alex McLean a call on 07977 281857  :

  • 2 x 2004 DAF 45 rigids with 18’ curtainsided bodies
  • 2 x the same as above with 18’ box bodies on
  • 6 x 2002 curtainsided trailers 13.6m long by 4.2m high.

Alex might be able to help you source a particular vehicle or trailer if you have specific requirement. Ask him too if you need help shifting something as his contacts are endless and remember we can refurbish these vehicles to look new and in your colours on request.

Our employee of the month for April was Panel Beater Jim Meharry without whom we’d be lost in Coachworks.   His expertise ranges from small commercial to heavy, chassis straightening & jig work and as one of the ‘old school’ he keeps the apprentices well on their toes (and runs rings round them).  Having said that, his feet and joints bother him a bit now which is amazing considering the ‘oiling’ he reportedly gives them on a weekend!   Well done and thanks Jim.  See him on www.colinhutton.com .

Before I finish, thanks for the messages for Allan Hendrie who is now back and fighting fit (with a limp) after his car accident  but spare a thought for Jim Mills, another panel beater who is suffering after a bit of a health scare.  Get well soon and get back to work Jim, we need you.

That aside, don’t be afraid to give us your work, we can cope.

Make hay while the sun shines!
